Canadian Oil Mafia & Michael Blair

So there's this group on twitter called the Canadian Oil Mafia (COM) and they host these twitter spaces. I love listening to them and they r huge supporters of the canadian oil industry. A few weeks back Michael Blair who has been so bearish on OBE the past few years on Seeking Alpha was on the call. He stated that OBE has the worst management team. Well, a couple days ago, he's on the call again and I straight up ask him why he has that opinion. First, he states that the current management team is ok. He had issues with the Penn West team. Well I'm thinking to myself a lot has happened since Penn West and the only conclusion I can come up with. Blair lost a lot of money in Penn West. A lot of animosity there. Second point, Blair mentions that OBE should have done the Bonterra merger. And I'm thinking dude you have no freakin clue what you're talking about. Have you seen today's obe and bonterra price...obe is priced higher at this very moment. The deal would have been a disaster to obe shareholders. So another conclusion. Blair probably is good friends with Fink and these old farts (who I respect) were very wrong on obe. There is some collateral damage from the Penn West days but hopefully that will fade really soon!

Michael Blair was a huge PWE supporter years ago and he got burned royally. That would be enough for anyone to dislike PWE management but in recent years he made definitive calls on Obe such as to short it in April 2021. He picked a bad time to give that advice as that was the beginning of a triple in the next few months. He has been so wrong on this one in both directions and his reputation on ...more

Those who have negative statements to say about OBE don't follow it and are repeating a TV dinner version of events they heard years ago and repeat that statement to avoid saying they don't know In the alternative they are accumulating Generally those who spend time promoting themselves on twitter are not good at whatever they are claiming to be good at

Don't necessarily agree with your comment regarding those who spend time promoting themselves on twitter are not good at whatever they are claiming to be good at. Eric Nuttall is on twitter but why he never mentions OBE has always perplexed me. He was actually on a twitter space a few days ago with Michael Gayed titled 'Oil is the Mother of All Bull Mkts' and it was very informative ...more

OBE is being left out because they are not paying to be promoted by the Twitter promoters. Don't confuse promotion with analysis. Nuttall promotes what he is holding.

Regarding twitter, I disagree with you. On the twitter space, Nuttall didn't promote one stock(s) and it was basically a bullish case for the canadian oil industry. I'm not sure Nuttall can promote any one specific stock on twitter bc every post has to go through compliance. The most interesting thing he said during the space was how he is the largest shareholder in some small-mid cap ...more

While it obviously is a very profitable and good cf time for energy companies...hopefully some of the analyts start talking about some of the cautionary signs too watch in Alberta. AECO gas is 6.04 cad vs 8.70 USA Nymex...spread has been increasing recenty. Prouduction must be going up quite abit and wind power has been high lately shutting some NG power generation. Heavy oil spread has looked ...more

He doesn't need approval for his twitter comments  His disclosed positions are public and he repeats that info - like being the biggest shareholder in baytex.     He also likes to blab about his return last year

Ok so you know better than Nuttall who specifically stated he needed to get compliance approval for every tweet. Plus, he can never respond to another person's tweet. Anyways, I think we can both agree that we are not Nuttall fans but I do respect him more than Michael Blair.
