Amazes me that this is trading below where M&Bs average cost probably is...they were buying up to $15 if I am not mistaken. GLTA

Marquard&Bahls issued a news release on June 16, 2021, saying that they acquired about 18% of Superior Plus' shares. Since that time they were quite active in buying SPB shares as the price was quite attractive. I think that by now they must have over 20% of Superior Plus. Since the taxes on investment income are lower in Europe than in Canada, it is highly unlikely that they are buying ...more

I don't believe the Canadian rules allow them to buy more than 20% without launching a takeover.

The rules are quite clear: unless the foreign entity by owning MORE  than 33% of the voting shares GAINS NO CONTROL of a Canadian company, they can hold up to that many VOTING shares. Another wrinkle is, they can hold up to 40% IF another(canadian) entiry holds the remaining 60%, and thus they, and not the foreign entity have a CONTROLLING INTEREST. The are still buying SPB. In this year they already purchased al least 310,000 common shares so far, and I don't think they are finished yet.
