In my mind there are two issues at play here.. 1.....the timing 2....answering the question as to whether a downgrade was warranted In terms of the timing it did strike me as being strange in that there is really nothing new in the past few months that would trigger a rethink of the US debt rating ;eading to an announcement today. Bt.....yes Trudeau bribed people with their own money during Covid.  The increase in our national debt shows that quite clearly. BUT....Canadians are no means alone in this regard.  The Dems in the US figured this out decades ago when over 40% of the people there pay no income tax and the Dems say we will give you handouts and the rich will pay for it,,,,thus sealing the vote for 40% of ...more

Well,  perhaps but it certainly came at a perfect time for Biden.  Pretty much did the job that another SPR release would have.  Flattened the 17M bbl drawdown in a hurry. Now if you are a cynic and tend to believe in conspiracy theories,  one might think that Biden had prior notice of Fitch's downgrade and was co-ordinated with the WH to be  made public today.   ...more
