The Fed lowering by .5 % has a lot of people buying utilities. CPX has moved a lot in the past week also.

You are correct that the utility stocks are popular right now, so that shareholders are looking for slow and steady stocks for safety and income in these turbulent times,so glta.

nope , not exactly buying the UTILITY sector story for TA..using CPX as an example, they just raised their divi again but inspite of a 20% increase in their shareprice they still pay north of a 5% dividend .. and this stock, TA, is up more than 30% since July, hardly slow, having NOT increased their divi...i feel this is more company specific-maybe some one accumulating??? they will have to ...more

TA will be increasing their dividend in December, but you're right. Whoever is buying is not buying for the income. My guess (pure speculation) is an imment deal between TA and a large data center moving to Alberta. TA started to move at the end of July when the possibilty of Alberta electricity for data centers was mentioned in a TD morning call report.
