09:34 AM EDT, 04/07/2022 (MT Newswires) -- Benchmark natural gas rose early on Thursday, rising to 14-year highs ahead of fresh storage data from the Energy Information Agency.
Gas for May delivery was last seen up US$0.09 to US$6.12 per million British thermal units, near the highest since December, 2008.
The rise has come on solid demand despite the onset of spring, as the National Weather Service's eight to 14-day forecast sees cooler than seasonal temperatures for most of the United States.
The EIA will release its weekly natural-gas storage report later on Thursday morning, with most analysts looking for a small drop in stocks following last week's report of the first injection of the season.
"EIA Natural Gas storage is looking for a draw of 30 today, after posting the first build of the year versus 26 last week," Robert Yawger, executive director of energy futures at Mizuho Securities USA said in a note.
