Fight through the ads and go to the 6:45 mark of this clip. The Don't Buy rating seems a bit unfair. He liked the recent sale of assets to Topaz, he just feels thare are other companies whose SP can appreciate more. And he's always on the hunt for double baggers. GLTA

DON'T BUY
Whitecap Resources(WCP-T)

Concern that it's going to be active in M&A, which creates an overhang on the stock, so it's not appealing. Recently sold mid-stream assets, will use proceeds for share buybacks.

Nuttall "buy" rating can be kiss of death. Pumping VRN for weeks,. the stock goes nowhere too.  Nuty can be full of sht.

I notice he does not mention the deal between Pembina and  Whitecap. He also never promotes a stock before he has acquired his own shares. This is a perfect setup for a patient investor. Hold your WCP and let's see where we are in 6 months. By his own admission during this clip, EN said that WCP ticks all the boxes. The M&A concern is a red herring, especially in light of Grants most ...more

The M&A concern is a red herring, especially in light of Grants most recent statement that he wants to lower the yield on WCP. Misleading statement. He siad he will "lower" the yield by increasing Share price.
Comment by DivChase on Jul 11, 2024 2:05pm
Baranja!  If he truly wants to reduce the dividend yield by way of SP appreciation, the best things he could have done would be to; 1) reduce debt with that whole 500mil or 2) share buyback with that whole 500mil 3) combination of 1&2 and finally (most importantly) 4) once and for all squash the acquisitions rumors if they are not true.  I don't believe him simply because of his ...more

Excuse some bad grammar.  I don't know if it's SH auto correct or IPhone doing silly corrections.

I hope he does find something that increases eps and buys it, with cash and not by issuing more shares. I still love this stock and is a large part of my retirement plans.

Is he (  E.N. ) BUYING  right NOW  ?  and deflecting ALL others !

According to the Wall Street Journal. Ninepoint (Nuttall) already held 18.500,000 shares of Whitecap as of June 30, 2024. Threy are the second largest shareholder behind the CPP Investment Board (27,784,250 shares)

I personally have no problem with WCP at all.  yes, it is slow to move up,.. it is frustrating from time to time, but it is by far one of the safest energy stocks to own.
Comment by Davesnothere on Jul 11, 2024 12:56pm
That would be his Income Fund. WCP has been held there for a while because of the good dividend. His negative comments were referring to his Energy Fund where he looks for the most upside torque at a discounted price. Then he tries to sell before the herd just around his target price.  Over and over...

He sells his book and dumps on everything else.. He's missed the mark on many..

He got caught holding the bag with Baytex . Huge position in a major turd .  Just another proof that active management NEVER works in the long term. You think you are God until one major mistake negates everything youve acheived and more. Notice how every converstaion and every " Top Pick" is Baytex becuase he wants you and me to buy so he can bail.  Hey dont look over here at ...more

Citizen13 wrote "Baytex..... Huge position in a major turd" I own WCP, I do not own BTE, However, in fairness, BTE did not do that badly. From under $2.00 three years ago (August 2021) to over $5 today, that is not that bad.  Others may have done better but 150%+ gain in three years beats the average.
Comment by DivChase on Jul 12, 2024 11:25am
CITIZEN, If BTE is a turd then what's WCP.   In that particular period Pierre mentioned, BTE appreciated 2x WCP's appreciation.   in that period we would then have to call WCP a SUPER TURD.
Comment by DivChase on Jul 12, 2024 12:01pm
Go back to August 2020. It looks even worse for WCP.   You have to go all the way back to 2016 and only then WCP looks good compared to Bte.    DIVS work in WCP favour so AT BEST since summer of 2016, WCP is an equal turd to BTE.  No difference.  So all this idolizing of THE GRANT and how he is percussion as one of the best executives in the biz, to me he must have some ...more

I don't think any share holders are idolizing Grant. What I do give Grant  kudos for is  putting his own money where is mouth is to the tune of 3 million shares.
Comment by DivChase on Jul 12, 2024 2:37pm
He darned well better invest into the company.  He founded this company after all!   Not just a regular director.  One can argue he doesn't own enough of the baby he gave birth to.
Comment by barneyj44 on Jul 12, 2024 5:26pm
3 million shares aren't enough? I haven't found many Oil company Ceo's with that much skin in the game.

Sure.  Nobody cares.
