This means something. New president pro business pro mining inauguration in 6 days. Going to be exciting.
Baru Gold Corp and its PT Tambang Mas Sangihe subsidiary have announced that the company’s Sangihe project has been designated a National Vital Object, which officially recognizes the project as vital to the national interests of Indonesia.
The gold junior said the designation provides the company with priority treatment and special protections, and obliges Indonesia’s State Police to provide security assistance to Baru.
“For the last two years, the Sangihe community has literally been terrorized by illegal miners and their vocal supporters who have opposed our operations,” Baru Gold CEO Terry Filbert said in a statement.
“We will never get the people benefiting from the illegal mining supporting a legal mining company but – our National Vital Object designation now obligates the State Police to protect our work on Sangihe,” he added.
As a result, the company revealed that it has withdrawn its lawsuit announced on August 25, 2022, which named Indonesia’s president, its national heads of government agencies, along with alleged illegal miners and their supporters in the Sangihe Police and local government.
Baru noted the court filing had sought financial damages or, preferably, appropriately support the company and their contractual rights to mine gold on Sangihe Island, stating that local government officials and police refused to protect company staff and equipment while overtly supporting illegal mining, thus preventing the company from entering production status.
Baru added that it is a supporter of President Joko, who explicitly acknowledged the harm of illegal mining and has ordered branches of the military and police to stop the practice.
Baru Gold is a junior gold project developer with NI 43-101 gold resources in Indonesia, one of the top 10 gold-producing countries in the world.
