I think and not being a geologist here I could be wrong that the play for Murphy, Torc, D3 is the Big Valley and Stettler which is under the Bakken Petroleum System. So if this is the case then that shifts the focus of the field east. I would imagine that BWD would still be exposed though and probably quite significantly. This I guess is were Legacy's slowness and science will pay off because ...more

East? Do you recall that Torc drilled one well to the east and promptly returned the acreage to D3?
Comment by nlr2 on Mar 29, 2012 12:31am
No there was two farm outs. A northern one to Torc and a southern one to an "unamed major oil and gas company". The April 18 farmout was cancelled. From the looks of it the most success has been on an axis between Torc's land at Pearce, Monarch etc. to D3's land at Ferguson. Hard to know for sure obviously with no solid numbers. "The farmee under the Farmout and Joint ...more

Sorry to blow up the board. Haha. I'm on a research roll tonight. The successful Murphy well is in the south east by the border just south of the Deethree well which hit 550 boe/d. So this means, according to their Q4 conference call that their wells drilled to date on the reservation targeting the Exshaw are duds. Positive though is if you drew a line between the Argosy success and the Murphy ...more

Nlr2: it appears I was right after all! Check out the MD&A for DTX. Torc has returned the acreage after drilling two wells. Top of Page 3 2011 Annual Report

An excerpt from Legacy news release. Does any of this have any impact on Bowood:   BAKKEN PLAY At Taylorton, ongoing refinements of the fracture stimulation treatments has led to continual improvements in production rates, with a number of recent wells achieving the highest initial production rates to-date.  Legacy drilled 9 wells that had 30 day initial production rates in excess of ...more

Haha touche sureshot. I wish they would have included that in the press result also, for my sake. Haha.

Does the news release  have impact on Bowood.  If I was in Legacy;s position I would be putting more $$$$ to work drilling in Southern ab ,  after the proven Success DTX is having . None of LEG numbers on the BOE are anywher near the Barrels of OIL that the companies are hitting in Southern AB bakken . On wells that DTX are doing for 4 Million a piece . Everyone knows ...more

Being further west our costs are going to be higher then DTX's deeper wells etc. Legacy can drill like 10 spearfish wells which are almost entirely oil for the cost of 1 of the Alberta Bakken wells they have done so far. So risk versus 1000 boe/d total plus whatever the reserves are probs around 1 million barrels proven, 100,000 per well. Since LEG didn't include an update in this news ...more

My two cents: I think MUR and TORC may have been targeting the Banff with the initial wells. Big Valley is where you want to play. I think that MUR (on its last successful well) , GSY, and DTX have all made a point of this. I am most interested as to who farms out that land from Nexen. It appears that GSY is also looking to farm-out it's north acreage. A party could pick up almost 45 ...more
