What kind of diesel is this?
What would make this diesel so attractive that they buy it for $1.25 a litre and have to pay extra to have the sulphur content lowered when you can buy it at the pumps at any gas station in Calgary for between .85 and.99 cents a litre?

it's renewable product, extra premium for it.

So someone who feels guilty about buying conventional diesel will want to buy it? Sorry, what am I missing?

Government mandates that a certain percentage of all fuel caches be of renewable fuel or biofuel, I think 2-4% depending on the province. Right now Canada imports all their renewable fuel. In time the government will lean to increasing that percentage and push out fossil fuels

I believe there are carbon credits for those that use the renewable diesel, but not 100 percent sure. Only reason to pay the higher price.

Didn't first batch get sold to a farmer for $1.60/litre? Does a farmer need credits? Sorry not probably a good question. Don't farmers get dyed diesel for cheaper than pump price? Just a little confusing. I'll need to do some research on this.

Ya their first batch sold for $1.60. I'm not sure what the dyed diesel sells for, just know they'll have their diesel desulphurized in a month and then it's a non issue

a month is very optimistic, remember they had a grand opening a year and a half ago. Their timelines have always been off in the past.

@stampsletmein sorry not meaning to pump but have you heard Trudeau and the liberals plan? We will still have fossil fuels but Trudeau will for sure raise the minimum percentage over time for renewable and bio fuel.

The govt. mandates that diesel fuel sold at the pump must contain a minimum level of renewable diesel in it. Renewable diesel costs more to produce than regular diesel from fossil fuels but the govt. has created the demand for it. Importing renewable disel from the US involves a lot of transportation costs. Making renewable fuel in Canada is cheaper.

I should add that biodiesel is usually made from feedstocks of tallow, canola oil, etc. Cielo makes biodiesel from garbage which is cheaper. https://www.cielows.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Cielo-Presentation-May-2020-Web-Version.pdf
