Defense Metals Corp > Li and REE are truly the bull market

Li and REE are truly the bull market

Tesla Model 3 uses about 5 kg of neodymium iron boron magnet in its traction motor and the small accessory (window, seat, power steering) motors now standard on all cars, ICSs or EVs. This is about 1.67 kg of neodymium/praseodymium (75/25) per 5 kg of magnets.

Global production of such magnets in 2020 was at least 150,000 mt or 150,000,000 kg, so there was enough, if all were used for this purpose, for 30,000,000 BEVs using rare earth permanent magnet motors, but there is a problem. However, REE permanent magnet motors as generators are used in large quantities in direct drive wind turbine generators and as motors are used as well as in aerospace, home appliances, cell phones (the speaker magnet and the vibration mode are forms of rare earth permanent magnet devices), personal computers, industrial forklifts, industrial motors, etc.

All true. Nobody is bearish about the outlook for rare earths or even semi rare. Help us out here SP, not many have your knowledge base. What, exactly, does the defn deposit have and in what grade/ tonnage if you know? Too many times I've seen rare earth and even gold "deposits" that will never be economic because the grade is too low or most of the deposit would fill about a dozen ...more

That is helpful thanks. The 1 to $1.5 billion sounds right to me to make a viable project given the capital needed to build it and the operating costs. 5 million tons @ 3% is all over their website but not what they still need to drill off. This kind of information is typically brushed over by bulls. I'm looking for potentially viable deposits in all those metals but it's hard to find much ...more

No Scandium mines yet! But interesting development projects. I'm following development of Scandium International Mining and Imperial Mining group properties and processes. Having almost 2 million shares of those for a long run. Future tells...
