Let’s face it, when you’re looking for gold and you come up with silver instead, it’s easy to get despondent and dismiss a project altogether. But in Durango’s case, the smart money knows that there’s definitely a “silver” lining.

Durango is a junior exploration company, and like all junior exploration companies, it lives and dies by the drill. Exploration companies need to constantly prove mineralization and to advance their projects and Durango is no exception.

On the 11th of March the company revealed that it found “Native silver.” This is great news not only because it proves mineralization, but also because in hydrothermal gold systems, native silver is almost always present.

From a geological standpoint, a hydrothermal system consists of layers of minerals.
Lighter minerals such as zinc form closer to the surface at the top of the hydrothermal system  and as one gets deeper, the denser or heavy elements like silver and gold start to form. So in the case of Durango, they have found zinc mineralization and following that, they have found native silver. This confirms that they may have reached the surface of the hydrothermal layer. If true, then drilling deeper should uncover gold! Even finding a speck of gold could mean that the company’s geological structure could be similar to its neighbours with respect to having gold at depth.
