Petro-Canada issues huge EV charging fee increase across the country, one week after acknowledging how unreliable their network is. According to the Petro-Canada website, the standard EV charging fee for all of Canada is now $0.50 per minute. This is a huge increase from the previous rates which were as low as $0.25 per minute in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to a high of $0.33 per minute in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. The rate in British Columbia used to be $0.27 per minute. In June the cost to charge your EV at Petro-Canada in Quebec, where the majority of the electricity comes from cheap hydroelectric sources, was increased 125% to $0.45 per minute, after previously being at just $0.20 per minute. This is exactly the type of behaviour which will benefit newcomers such as DM EVS. People are fed up of being abused at the whim of oligapolies - as is happening globally with the high price of fuel, driven by OPEC+..

Keeping things in perspective, Petro Canada was very low on the price scale while offering high power chargers in many locations ( up to 350 KW). Now they are above average but not as much as the price leaders which are at $0.57/minute. To describe the new pricing as abuse might be an exaggeration from someone unfamiliar with the present pricing situation. At the new price under ideal conditions

I never seen a charger at Petro Canada in Vancouver, I do see one hydrogen charger at Esso in North Vancouver.

I wondered what the OK decal meant on the back of EV's in B.C. Not only do they get away (at this time) without paying a "highway tax" but they are also allowed to drive in HOV lanes regardless of number of occupants. Overview HOV lanes in B.C. EVs displaying an official decal are allowed in these HOV lanes.

They still have to pay tax, but they can drive on HOV lane.  Plug in hybrid qualify, pure hybrid does not qualify.

The highway tax is built into the price of gasoline -- not yet into the price of electricity. Just give them a bit more time to figure out how to change the process.
