Emission standards

Biden to announce new emissions standards, target that 50% of vehicles sold in US by 2030 are electric https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/05/politics/biden-emissions-standards-electric-vehicles/index.html

I guess there are going to be a lot of really old combustion engine vehicles on the road after 2030 then (2035 in Canada). Prices of cobalt, lithium, platinum, and nickel continue to rise, there isn't enough feed supply to create that amount of batteries and it takes years to open new mines, reliable charging infrastructure is a long way off, and people can't afford EVs without deep ...more

Forward thinking people see what is going on around them.  The shift towards electrification is happening in most places except for some areas where the local politicians appear to be brain dead. In my area I'm seeing electric chargers being installed just about everywhere.  Parking garages with solar panels serving as both a roof for the entire lot and a source of energy for the car ...more

How well does that garage solar roof work after a snow storm or ice storm or dust storm or on a cloudy day? If I park there overnight will my car be charged up in the morning? Will that solar garage roof stand up to a hailstorm, windstorm, tornado or hurricane? I want a solar roof that can stand up to all that nature offers. That may take a while to invent. xxx

Take awhile to invent?? C'mon. You do know how to Google this stuff don't you? They've BEEN invented and are currently in use. READ.

It's definitely happening, I'm not arguing that. I'm just skeptical of the deadline. Here in Ontario EV chargers were legislated into every new residential and commercial build in 2018 (except for apartments and condos), which is great. That will still be a lot of retrofitting by 2030-2035 into older homes at about $2,500 per install for a Level 2 charger, even with rebates. Never mind ...more

Starkicker just a few points. No there is not any legislation requiring install of chargers residential or commercial.  A level 2 charger now runs closer to $1000.00 and this without rebates. Fact is there is not much to a charging station.  As for retrofits no big deal and hardly enough of a job to call it a retrofit.  If you have enough power to run a clothes dryer or cook a roast ...more

Like it or not, makes sense or not, is better for the environment or not, is cost effective or not, etc, etc, etc, it dosnt matter, it is happening.  Unless an alternative fuel for the internal combution engine is discoverd overnight EV's are here to stay.  I dont agree with a lot of the hype.  However I beleive and see the writting on the wall.  Thats why I have put my ...more

Silverad0- I hear you..... this is one frustrating stock and company. Hopefully Mell will honor his pledge on Finance completion now in August . Glta.

Completely agree, as you say with EVs so goes with FCC ...and all near term cobalts, the writing is on the wall and unstoppable.  your comment on the grid ? They have that figured out and is even better for those of us in cobalt, because it means mass storage systems ( batteries) and more cobalt no matter how you look at it.....lol I envision seacan sized battery packs all all existing fuel ...more

All very promising. I also saw something where EVs can act as generators for residential power outages which will be important in the future with stronger, more frequent storms.

Hey Star...I saw that too...If you have time, check out the new Ford f-150 Lightning...not that I'm a Ford fan, but if other manufacturers could do the same thing for back-up power, it would be more enticing for people sitting on the fence.

Friday nite on Fox TV Kudlow segment :  talkes about Cobalt , copper, nickel etc , & US batteries market, & US focus on rare earth type materials. Spokesman from the US Manhattan Institute.. ( (an elite US think tank )

Thanks Daver. I'll check that out. Definitely makes an EV more enticing, especially for rural residents. A buddy of mine just installed a generator for $15k.
