Proximity to lube blending plants

The logic for lubricants producers offtaking base oils, would be to limit the distance to their blending facilities to reduce the cost of transportation in the global production cost.

Since the so far unknown Super Major is stated to assist GIII in the review of suitable re-refinery sites in US Golf Coast region, and also since GIII already announced plans for a 5600 BPD Marine Terminal Facility in or near Houston, we should assume that the lubricants blending plant should be not too distant.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas with operations in Rockingham, North Carolina and an ISO Certified blending plant in Linden, New Jersey, Total Specialties USA, a subsidiary of Total USA, manufactures, markets, and distributes a wide range of high-performance lubricants for the automotive and heavy duty sectors.

In Louisiana, BP has a major lubricants facility in Port Allen — near the state capital of Baton Rouge — which serves as a regional manufacturing and distribution center for bp Lubricants USA. Workers at the facility blend, package and distribute Castrol motor oil and car care products for sale in the U.S. and for export to markets in the Caribbean, South America, Canada and Mexico.

While both Total and BP have their blending facilities in other states and rather distant , Shell seems to have a core blending center in Galena Park . Galena Park is a city in Harris County, Texas, United States, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area.

So the proximity argument would point to SHELL as the Super Major we are looking for.
