The post below, by rose7654 is exactly what I was told last summer when I asked management:
"why has there been no action on the Exloitation Permit for more than 3 years despite the fact that the former MEM, Isa Conde, approved GoldQuest's application and sent it to the president for ratification?"
The answer I got was that Lucia Medina, the sister of the former president was opposed to mining in the area and dissuaded her brother from signing off on the project. The post by rose7654 confirms this account which is important for investors to understand. The long delay in
getting the permit is because Lucia Medina poisoned the well of public opinion against the Romero project. The good news is that GoldQuest's management understands that the problem is entirely political, and are working to get a political solution. GoldQuests shareholder base includes investors from Canada, UK, USA, and Switzerland and ambassadors to the DR from these countires have been made aware of the Romero project and the need for an exploitation permit.
The time it takes to get a political resolution is much more difficult to define than is the time to get drilling results. However the reward for waiting, from Romero and Cachimbo, will be much greater. I know that everything that can be done is being done to get the permit, and most importantly there is
no longer any reason why this permit should not be given and a multitude of reasons why it should.
@rose7654 This may or may not be news to this board, but I recently learned/realized that one of the primary reasons why there needs to be such an extensive effort at (re)educating the people of SJM about the project is no doubt because the former longstanding (18 year) Deputy of the SJM province, Lucia Medina, was a vocal opponent of the project and spread lots of disinformation. Lucia Medina is the sister of former president Danilo Medina and was replaced as deputy after 18 years in August 2020. I don't know if she influenced her brother or if he influenced his sister, but it doesn't matter now. You can read her very flimsy (i.e. bogus) grounds for opposing the project at this link: https://www.elcaribe.com.do/destacado/lucia-medina-si-san-juan-no-quiere-explotacion-de-mina-que-no-haya-explotacion-de-minas/
