Dominican government seeks to expand relations with Angola, oil and gas producing country
Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Energy and Mines (MEM), Antonio Almonte, is considering the possibility of collaboration with the government of Angola, a country known for its significant oil and natural gas production on the African continent.
According to a press release from the ministry, Almonte received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Angola, Mara Cndida Pereira Teixeira. During the meeting, they discussed the potential establishment of ties between the Dominican Republic and Angola.
Ambassador Pereira, who previously served as her country’s Minister of Education until 2019, highlighted Angola’s abundant natural resources, particularly it’s status as a major oil producer. She mentioned that Angola’s resources could be of value to the Dominican Republic, which heavily relies on fuel imports.
In addition to the energy sector, the meeting at the MEM headquarters delved into various mining-related topics. Angola’s experience as a country with diverse mining activities, including diamond, cobalt, manganese, and other minerals essential to modern industries, was of particular interest in the discussions.
