Question about Shorting and how to stop it?

Is it better to have a sell order on Hpq shares for example $15 dollars. will this action prevent my bank from loaning my shares to shorters. Anybody know if this is true. if it is i'm putting sell order on all my shares of HPQ tomorrow morning.

Chicken... I'm told that is true and I have put my shares up for $10. One good contract and maybe a little bit more and $10 would not be out of the question 18 months out. I would take $10 and Walk..

chickendinner, just be prepared for a bit of problem from your broker. I'm still having a problem with CIBC Investors Edge who "declined" a bunch of my high sell orders, saying they were "substantially away from current levels". Just a warning, you may get some 'push back' from your broker. So far I have had no luck with Investors Edge. Am considering dumping them ...more

I have done enough research to believe that the only way you can stop your shares from being shorted is to take them out of street name by ordering a paper certificate. As long as the stocks are in street name, it doesn't matter what you do with your sell orders, as you do not actually own the stock, just the rights to it. I have learnt in my time, that there is one SURE, 100% way to beat ...more
