Rob McLeod, CEO and Director of Nations Royalty Corp (Ticker: NRC.v or NRYCF for US investors), appeared in a recent interview on The Deep Dive, where he outlined the company's strategic focus and long-term vision. Nations Royalty Corp stands out as a majority Indigenous-owned public company with a clear objective: to acquire royalties from resource projects on First Nations' lands, promoting economic reconciliation.
Focus on BC's Golden Triangle
Nations Royalty’s starting portfolio includes key royalties on significant projects within British Columbia’s Golden Triangle, a highly prospective region for mining known for its rich mineral deposits and ongoing resource development.
McLeod also touched on his personal connection to the mining industry, particularly within the Golden Triangle, where his family has long-standing ties. This personal involvement reinforces his commitment to both the region and Nations Royalty's mission.
Diverse Royalties Portfolio
Nations Royalty’s portfolio comprises five Nisga’a Benefits Agreement Royalties and interests in notable assets such as the Brucejack Gold Mine, KSM Project, Premier Gold Project, Red Mountain Gold Deposit, and Kitsault Molybdenum Deposit. The combined net asset value of these assets is estimated at $214 million.
Significant Royalty Interest in the KSM Property
A key highlight of the interview was Nations Royalty’s interest in the KSM property, one of the largest undeveloped copper-gold deposits in the world, owned by Seabridge Gold. McLeod acknowledged the challenges posed by the remote location of the project, but emphasized its advancement in permitting and the potential for substantial royalty revenue.
Expanding Beyond Precious Metals and Canada
While Nations Royalty primarily targets royalties in the precious and energy metals sectors, the company remains open to other opportunities, including agricultural products and clean energy resources. Although Canada is the main area of interest, the company is also actively exploring global opportunities, particularly in Australia.
Looking Ahead: Indigenous Leadership and Key Milestones
The interview concluded with McLeod sharing several upcoming milestones for Nations Royalty. These include potential transactions and further expansion of the Indigenous leadership team, which are critical to demonstrating the viability of the company’s business model and its role in promoting economic reconciliation.
