is it possible further news is coming and they didn't want to call for a 2nd halt so shortly after the first?

Just calm down.. The Exchange need to review the whole proposed transaction by PNN and PNN had to provide different documentation to the Exchange.  I'm sure it will be reviewed and unhalted before friday as there is more than 2M options expiring next tuesday.
