2025 can you believe it Batman !

Question for the board? Happy New year to all. Well TFSA time is here again
I plan on allotting approximately 30% for more TLT shares,  I had promised myself that my pockets were full enough
Am I alone in believing that our day in the sun is on the way.  Anyone else planning on TFSA stuffing  ?

Great idea. In USA here, and because I'm retired on social security and a small pension I can convert a number of shares from my ira to my regular acct ( my required minimum distribution ) without owing any taxes. I then still can convert more shares from my IRA  to my Roth IRA before any of it becomes taxable.  If for some reason we see a SP drop from here before the BTD, I'll ...more

No tax deferred accounts for me.  I spent the past seven years emptying my IRA.  Retirement accounts are the last big honey pot for the govt to steal.  Other countries have done it.  As of 2023 the total of all retirement accounts was about the same as our national debt.

tfsa is not a tax deferral, putting money in a tfsa account allows for growth of the money or stock or whatever inside the account tax free. If your investment increases you can withdraw the money tax free. One of the only good deals left out there

Yes I will be putting 100% of my contributions into TLT. As you can see today when you put your order in to buy at yesterday's price, then the sp slowly creeps up. So just think about when new investors want in due to some significant event such as BTD approval or deal made on bird flu vaccine or herpes vaccine we will and should see a big rise in sp. Hold tight 2025 should be a good year for ...more

I love my TFSA. Perfect place to park a ticking happy bomb like TLT. Even if TLT becomes a 100 bagger ( or more ) which is entirely possible IMO, all profits tax free. Withdraw some profit? Tax free. The only thing to watch is that you don't actively day trade in that account. Good luck getting a definition of day trading from CRA though. If TLT does what I think it will I will be very happy ...more

I am jealous of the "rookies" who have only been here for a few months and have a cost base under .20.

And I wouldn't be here if it wern't for one person who advised me on TLT.   And hopefully when the stock halts this year I am off work to sit here and watch.  So many thanks to all of you and for all of the information you all share daily.  I sincerely appreciate it.  Happy New Year.

While it's true that they may not have had to patiently endure as long as many of us have, there is also no way that anyone that has only been here a few months have had the opportunity to accumulate anything close to the position size that it seems that many of us here currently have. And, whether or not the money that was invested here years ago will end up eventually producing a higher ...more

Very true. There are I think a lot of shareholders of TLT that stand to make a very very large amount of money for being incredibly patient. As odd as it may sound, I wish I had stumbled upon TLT sooner as I would have a larger pool now. But hey, I'll be happy anyway!

Only in Canada you say?  :)

Actually there is an American equivalent of the TFSA, that is the Roth IRA. But it is more restrictive than the TFSA. Contribution room doesn't grow year by year. If you don't make a contribution in a given year you lose that contributiion room. Plus if your income gets too high you can't contribute any more. And you have to wait until the account is 5 years old and you must be 59.5 ...more
