07:10 AM EDT, 07/02/2021 (MT Newswires) -- Greenhouse operator Village Farms International Inc. (VFF.TO) said Thursday that unit Pure Sunfarms received a license amendment that allows it to cultivate cannabis at another greenhouse facility in Delta, British Columbia.
Pure Sunfarms can immediately cultivate cannabis in half of the 1.1-million-square-foot Delta 2 greenhouse facility, while the other half will be ready for cultivation once conversion of that area for cannabis production is completed. Planting in the already-converted half is expected to begin in September, with the first harvest seen in November.
The amendment from Health Canada immediately increases Pure Sunfarms' total cultivation capacity to 1.65 million square feet, Village Farms said. The unit expects to further increase its capacity to 2.2 million square feet during the second half of 2022 once the remaining half of the Delta 2 facility is converted for cannabis production.
Delta 2 is adjacent to the existing Delta 3 facility, which Village Farms said is operating at full production.
