"When China raised the reserve requirements, it was unexpected," said Ian Nakamoto, director of research at MacDougall, MacDougall and MacTier, in an interview with Canadian Press. "All of a sudden, you say: Is some of the global stimulus going to be removed quicker than I thought?"

Toronto & New York – (The Canadian Press) - he Toronto stock market advanced Monday afternoon as rising oil, copper and gold stocks lifted energy and mining stocks.

Volumes were lower than normal with New York markets closed for the Martin Luther King holiday.

Esperanza Silver (TSX: V.EPZ, Stock Forum)
The company announced late on Monday that it would raise up to $5 million in a private placement. Esperanza said it will issue 4 million units at $1.25 each. The units consist of one common share and one warrant to purchase another share for $1.75. The warrant will be good for two years. The cash raised in the private placement will be used to continue exploration at the company’s Cerro Jumil property in Mexico and its San Luis property in Peru.
