It’s been an April to remember for shareholders of Newcastle Minerals (TSX: V.NCM, Stock Forum). Its stock has popped about 100% so far this month to its current price of 19 cents a share.

In 2010, meanwhile, company insiders have purchased about 1.2 million shares of Newcastle at prices between 8.5 cents and 13 cents a share.

On April 1, 2010, Newcastle said it has negotiated an option to purchase a 100% interest in 26 mineral claims covering approximately 15,400 acres in the Townships of Potier and Neville in the Porcupine mining district of Ontario. The claims are located three kilometres north of Trelawney Mining and Exploration’s (TSX: V.TRR, Stock Forum) Chester Project, which Trelawney had recently reported intersecting 107.11 metres of 8.20 grams per tonne of gold.
