Despite a pullback among the healthcare, financial, industrial, energy, even the metals and mining sectors on Wednesday, Canada’s main stock index managed to edge higher with tech and utilities posting gains.

Following a banner day for markets, US stocks took a pause, and saw a split close, essentially lower than normal on Wednesday a day ahead of the Thanksgiving Day holiday, which could lead to some volatile moves.

The Canadian dollar traded for 76.84 cents US compared with 76.73 cents US on Tuesday.
Crude oil prices were up $0.80 to $45.71.
The price of gold was up $0.69 to $1,806.63.
In world markets, the Nikkei was up 131.93 points to 26,296.86, the Hang Seng was up 81.80 points to 26,669.80, the FTSE was down 40.92 points to 6,391.09, and the DAX was down 2.64 points to 13,289.80.
