TORONTO (SHfn) – Better-than-expected gold output boosted the fortunes of a small miner Thursday, while financial results lifted a tech stock.

Olympus Pacific Minerals (TSX: T.OYM, Stock Forum) shares powered 18% higher to 29.5 cents on Thursday after the micro cap miner said its May gold production of 2,574 ounces has exceeded the company's best production month set in April 2009. Olympus' current annualized gold production now exceeds the 2009 budget by some 20%.

As well, shares of Voice Mobility International(TSX: T.VMY, Stock Forum) shot up 39% to 34 cents as the developer and provider of carrier and enterprise unified communication solutions, and Nortel Government Solutions Inc. (NGS) announced an agreement to act as Voice Mobility's master distributor for the U.S. Federal Government market. NGS, a U.S. company wholly owned by Nortel and based in Fairfax, Virginia, provides products and services to all Federal agencies.

GLV Inc. (TSX: T.GLV.A, Stock Forum), meanwhile, reported fiscal 2009 net earnings of $11.1 million, or 42 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $3.6 million, or 14 cents a share, for fiscal 2008. The company is a provider of technological solutions used in water treatment and pulp and paper production. GLV stock popped 20% to $8.10.

And, Smartcool Systems (TSX: V.SSC, Stock Forum) Thursday announced that its distributor, Smartcool Systems Australia Pty. Ltd., has completed a successful trial with a major Australian Bank and has received the initial order for equipment to be installed into several hundred branches throughout Australia. Its shares climbed 10% to 16.5 cents.
