Allon tumbles 60% on clinical trial failure: Canadian market movers

On Wednesday, the top TSX mover was Uranium One Inc. (TSX: T.UUU, Stock Forum). The stock rose 5.21% and was trading at $2.22 on volume of 10.7 million. On Nov. 29, the uranium producer released a report that said long-term demand for uranium was rising on China’s and India’s nuclear expansion plans.

Allon Therapeutics Inc. (TSX: T.NPC, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. It nose-dived 60% and was trading at $0.01 on volume of 7.9 million shares. The biotechnology development company said its pivotal clinical trial on evaluating davunetide as a treatment for progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) failed to produce an effect in this population.

Pinecrest Energy Inc. (TSX: V.PRY, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It was unchanged and was trading at $1.54 on volume of 1.9 million. On Dec. 11, the petroleum and natural gas exploration, production and development company terminated an arrangement agreement between it and Spartan Oil Corp. (TSX: T.STO, Stock Forum) whereby the two companies would have been combined.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture wasOrko Silver Corp. (TSX: V.OK, Stock Forum). It fell 0.84% and was trading at $2.37 after 1.8 million shares changed hands. On Dec. 16, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: T.FR, Stock Forum) announced it was acquiring the silver development company for a totalconsideration of approximately $387 million.
