The TSX composite was lower, falling 19.70 points to 12,804.93 in mid-morning trading on Wednesday. The Dow was up 45.88 to 13,758.09, while NASDAQ gained 9.70 to 3,152.88.

Canadian National Railway Co. (TSX: T.CNR, Stock Forum) said its profit increased to $610 million in the fourth quarter with record revenue and carloads. The stock fell 0.34% to $93.45 a share on Wednesday.

The price of gold fell US$6.36 to US$1,686.15 an ounce, while silver slipped US$0.03 to U$32.21 an ounce.
