The TSX composite was knocked down 27.01 points to 12,774.22 in mid-morning trading on Monday. The Dow was down 17.51 to 13,975.46, while NASDAQ lost 2.70 to 3,191.17.

Canadian National Railway Co. (TSX: T.CNR, Stock Forum) has halted a study into the feasibility of building a $5-billion rail line to ship iron ore from northern Quebec to port, as miners delay projects due to low prices. It rose 0.89% to $98.69 in mid-morning trading.

The price of gold fell US$19.76 to US$1,647.04 an ounce, while silver slipped US$0.43 to US$30.95 an ounce.
