According to published reports, BlackBerry Z10 smartphone has exceeded sales expectations since it was launched on Feb. 5. In Canada, BlackBerry has outsold other smartphone devices such as Apple Inc.’s iPhone 5 and Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S3 devices.
The company is now increasing production to keep up with growing demand.
The Z10 smartphone is expected to hit the U.S. markets in March.
Bombardier Inc. (TSX: T.BBD.B, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. The stock was down 0.5% and trading at $4.02 on volume of 2.2 million.
The transportation equipment manufacturer reported an adjusted net income of $692 million, compared to $865 million last fiscal year in its financial results ending Dec. 31.
Donnybrook Energy inc. (TSX: V.DEI, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It climbed 45.45% and was trading at $0.08 on volume of 5 million.
The oil and natural gas exploration and production company entered into an asset exchange agreement and an arrangement agreement with Cequence Energy Ltd. (TSX: T.CQE, Stock Forum) to sell the company's interest in its Simonette and Resthaven oil and gas properties for consideration consisting of 10.3 million common shares of Cequence and Cequence's interest in its Fir oil and gas property.
The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Dolly Varden Silver Corp. (TSX: V.DV, Stock Forum) It was unchanged and was trading at $0.19 after 4 million shares changed hands.
On Feb. 12, the silver junior announced it was proceeding with a non-brokered private placement of up to 83.3 million common shares at a price of $0.18 per common share for total proceeds of up to $15,000,000.
