Lakeland Resources soars 100% on acquisition news: Canadian market movers

On Friday, the top TSX mover was Ithaca Energy Inc. (TSX: T.IAE, Stock Forum). The stock lost 6.06% and was trading at $1.84 on volume of 5 million.

The oil and gas company said it would acquire Valiant Petroleum Plc for US$308.2 million in cash and shares.

Uranium One Inc. (TSX: T.UUU, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. It fell 0.36% and was trading at $2.73 on volume of 3.6 million shares.

The uranium exploration and development company had no related news to explain the high volume in trading.

Lakeland Resources Inc. (TSX: V.LK, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It soared 100% and was trading at $0.12 on volume of 1.4 million.

The junior mineral resource company entered into a letter of agreement dated Feb. 26, for the exclusive rights to acquire eight uranium projects located within the Athabasca Basin of northern Saskatchewan and Alberta.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Cerro Resources NL (TSX: V.CJO, Stock Forum). It was unchanged and was trading at $0.13 after 1.4 million shares changed hands.

On Feb. 11, the base metals exploration and development company said it had increased drill targets at its Espiritu Santo gold/silver project in Mexico.
