Loonie edges up while gold and oil dip ahead of TSX trading

TORONTO _ The Canadian dollar gained ground Friday ahead of the open of trading at the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The loonie traded at 82.53 cents US, up 0.20 of a U.S. cent from Thursday close.

The Dow Jones industrial futures were up 12 points at 17,993.0, the Nasdaq futures rose 29.8 points to 4,511.3, and the S&P 500 futures declined 2.5 points to 2,109.4.

On the commodity markets, the June crude contract was down 22 cents at US$57.52 a barrel and the June gold contract fell $7.50 to US$1,186.80 an ounce ahead of the TSX open.

The S&P/TSX composite index closed Thursday at 15,392.35, after rising 87.58 points.
