Canadian dollar and U.S. index futures bump before TSX open

TORONTO _ The Canadian dollar was up nearly half a cent U.S. ahead of the open of North American stock markets.

The loonie traded at 83.24 cents US, up 0.4 of a U.S. cent from Tuesday's close.

The Dow Jones industrial futures were up 61 points at 17,925.0, the Nasdaq futures rose 5.75 points to 4,413.0, and the S&P 500 futures advanced 5.75 points to 2,089.5.

On the commodity markets, the June crude contract was up $1.25 at US$61.65 a barrel and the June gold contract rose 70 cents to US$1,193.90 an ounce ahead of the TSX open.

Toronto's S&P/TSX composite index closed Tuesday at 15,173.94, after plunging 193.53 points.
