Loonie bumps as US index futures climb ahead of TSX open

TORONTO _ The Canadian dollar was up one-fifth of a U.S. cent ahead of trading Monday on North American stock markets.

The loonie traded at 81.73 cents US, up 0.20 of a U.S. cent from Friday's close.

The Dow Jones industrial futures were up 114.0 points at 18,025.0, the Nasdaq futures rose 33.2 points to 4,533.0, and the S&P 500 futures advanced 13.8 points to 2,111.5.

On the commodity markets, the July crude contract was up 13 cents at US$59.74 a barrel and the August gold contract fell $9.90 to US$1,192.00 an ounce.

The S&P/TSX composite index fell 117.52 points on Friday to close at 14,653.12.
