In good news for North American uranium players, fuel is being loaded into a nuclear reactor in southern Japan as it prepares to resume operation next month.

The facility will be the first of more than 40 mothballed reactors to be restarted following the Fukushima disaster.

According to Canadian Press, Kyushu Electric Power has confirmed 4 of 157 fuel bundles were loaded into the Sendai plant's No. 1 reactor Tuesday. The bundles will be loaded by Friday ahead of final inspections.

The resumption of service is scheduled for August 10. A second reactor will be restarted by October.

Representatives of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's government say they plan to restart as many of the reactors as possible in the near future.

Meanwhile, in Canada, Fission Uranium (TSXV:FCU, Forum) and Denison Mines (TSX:DML, Forum) have announced they will join forces to create a large Athabasca uranium entity.
