While the Trans Mountain debate continues, the Keystone XL Pipeline is still in the picture.
As reported
by the Associated Press, attorneys for the Trump administration have asked a judge to allow
TransCanada Corp. to push ahead with the project. President Donald Trump
revived the project last year, telling reporters -
“We’ll see if we can get that pipeline built … A lot of jobs.” The 1,800 km pipeline that would transport Canadian crude to Nebraska was rejected by in 2015 by then-President Barack Obama on the grounds that it could accelerate climate change.
Meanwhile, British Columbia’s Supreme Court dismissed legal challenges from the City of Vancouver and a local First Nation to
Kinder Morgan Canada’s Trans Mountain expansion project. It plans to triple the amount of oil being transferred from Alberta to the coast.
This comes as oil prices
have begun to slide, as OPEC and Russia plan to boost their output as soon as next month. Crude oil prices declined more than 2.5%, or $2 a barrel Friday.
