According to Statistics Canada, the country's cannabis industry now contributes $14.6 billion to the country's economy. StatsCan reported that the Canadian legal cannabis industry's contribution to the country's gross domestic product was upwardly adjusted to $14.6 billion in September, up from previous estimates of approximately $8 billion.
The revision was prepared following StatsCan’s annual review process which amended all of the agency's cannabis data, which goes as far back as January 2016. In addition to the new GDP figures, Statistics Canada announced that Canadian household spending on cannabis in the third quarter of the year came to $8.49 billion, up from $6.76 billion in during the same period a year earlier.
