Husky Energy Enters Its 75th Year

Husky Energy Enters Its 75th Year

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Jan. 16, 2013) - This year Husky Energy (TSX:HSE) is celebrating 75 years as a pioneer in Canadian business.

From its humble beginnings in 1938 as a small, family-owned asphalt and bunker fuel business, Husky has grown into one of Canada's largest integrated energy companies. Today, its operations span from its foundation in Western Canada, to the Midwestern United States, the shores of the Atlantic, and to the emerging energy markets in the Asia Pacific region.

"For three quarters of a century our people have been on the front line of oil and gas exploration," said CEO Asim Ghosh. "We have been a pioneer in heavy oil technology, a leader in the exploration and development of Western Canada and the Atlantic Region, at the forefront of new developments in the Asia Pacific Region, and a responsible citizen in our communities."

Husky's roots can be traced back to Cody, Wyoming, where our founders established a small refinery selling asphalt and bunker fuel. In 1946, the refinery was moved to Lloydminster on the Alberta/Saskatchewan border to tap the region's rich heavy oil resources and over seven decades the Company has built a business in the community that includes an asphalt refinery, heavy oil upgrader and ethanol plant.

Operations have expanded throughout Western Canada and are supported by refining interests in the United States. Today, the Company is developing new growth pillars in the Asia Pacific Region, the Oil Sands, and the Atlantic Region.

"We continue to build on Husky's proud record of achievement as we create the next generation of growth for the Company and our shareholders," said Ghosh.

Husky now has more than 5,000 employees and annual production of approximately 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
