The Dow Jones Hits New Record. Merz Pharma Group Interested In Buying Obagi for About $383.5M

NEW YORK, April 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

On Tuesday, the Dow Jones industrial average climbed to another record high, a boost the index got from strong auto sales and factory orders. German drug maker Merz Pharma Group announced yesterday that it wants to buy Obagi for about $383.5mil which tops an offer that was made by Valeant Pharmaceuticals in March.

Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) - Shares of Delta fell on Tuesday on trading volume nearly three times higher than usual.  Shares closed down 8% after the Company failed to hit March metric forecasts. The Company said unit revenue, also known as passenger revenue per available seat mile, climbed 2% in March. Analysts were expecting 4% or better for the month.

Optimer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPTR) - Optimer shares soared on Tuesday after a Bloomberg report said that GlaxoSmithKline Plc and Cubist Pharmaceuticals Inc. were among those interested in buying the Company. Shares climbed as high as 24% in intra-day trading yesterday.  

Nordic American Tankers Limited (NYSE: NAT) - Nordic American Tankers was one of the biggest decliners on the NYSE on Tuesday after the Company announced that its follow-on offering of 9.75 million common shares has been priced at $9.60 per share. The stock closed at $9.85, down 10.62%.

BGC Partners, Inc. (Nasdaq: BGCP) - Trading volume for BGC Partners exploded yesterday, trading nearly 28 million shares. The stock saw gains as high as 49% on after the Company agreed to sell its electronic Treasury trading platform to Nasdaq OMX Group for $750 million in cash, or $1.2 billion should sales goals be met. The stock closed up 48.31% at $5.71.

Vodafone Group Public Limited Company (Nasdaq: VOD) - Vodafone Group Public Limited was one of the most actively traded stocks on the Nasdaq composite on Tuesday. Trading volume was more than three times higher than usual. A report revealed that AT&T and Verizon Communications might jointly bid for Vodafone and divide up its assets.  Shares of VOD closed at $29.40, up 3.74%.
