Newport News Shipbuilding Receives Environmental Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., May 14, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) is pleased to announce that the company's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division has been recognized for exemplary environmental compliance and commitment to environmental excellence by the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD).

NNS received gold awards for meeting industrial waste water discharge limits mandated by HRSD and for meeting HRSD's technical and administrative requirements. Gold awards were presented to local companies for perfect permit compliance in 2012. NNS has earned recognition from the HRSD every year since the awards were first presented in 1994.

"Newport News Shipbuilding works hard to be good a steward of the environment," said Dru Branche, NNS' director of environmental, health and safety. "These awards acknowledge the coordinated efforts of thousands of shipbuilders who work in our shops and on our ships."

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) designs, builds and maintains nuclear and non-nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard and provides after-market services for military ships around the globe. For more than a century, HII has built more ships in more ship classes than any other U.S. naval shipbuilder at its Newport News Shipbuilding and Ingalls Shipbuilding divisions. Employing about 37,000 in Virginia, Mississippi, Louisiana and California, HII also provides a wide variety of products and services to the commercial energy industry and other government customers, including the Department of Energy.
