SURE-FIRE Selects TranSwitch's HDplay Solution for a New Family of Mobile Video Accessories

SURE-FIRE Selects TranSwitch’s HDplay Solution for a New Family of Mobile Video Accessories

TranSwitch® Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions in the rapidly growing consumer electronics and telecommunications markets, today announced that the Company is working with SURE-FIRE to develop a new family of products targeting the growing mobile accessories market for video-enabled smartphones and tablets. TranSwitch’s TXC-44151 HDplay® IC has been selected by SURE-FIRE to serve as a single-chip integrated platform for mobile video dongles which support multiple video standards including HDMI®, DisplayPort™, Mobility DisplayPort (MyDP), and MHL™ in one solution. SURE-FIRE is a leading manufacturer of video connectivity devices, including cables and dongles marketed by major consumer electronics brands and sold across a variety of markets.

Mobile devices continue to evolve by adopting new connectivity standards, including MHL, DisplayPort, and MyDP. According to the MHL Consortium, there are over 200 adopters of the standard, including TranSwitch, which are helping to drive adoption of MHL in mobile devices. In a recent report by TechNavio, DisplayPort-enabled device shipments are also forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 31.6% from 2012 to 2016. Video-enabled mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, are forecasted by IDC to grow over the next several years. Smartphone shipments are expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.0% from 2013 to 2017, reaching 1.5 billion units in 2017, while tablet shipments are anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 23.3% from 2012 to 2016, reaching 282.7 million units in 2016.

“We are very pleased to be collaborating with TranSwitch on our new connectivity accessories,” said Dean Chiu, Global Project Manager at SURE-FIRE. “Mobile devices are evolving at an accelerated pace with exciting multimedia capabilities. We plan to leverage TranSwitch’s innovative HDplay transceiver for our new mobile video dongles to further provide compact, high performance and simple solutions for connecting these advanced smartphones and tablets to a variety of displays. We anticipate that this collaboration will result in innovative new products that provide consumers with universal video connectivity products. These solutions can also enable retailers, including wireless carriers, to manage costs by reducing the number and type of video adapter accessories carried in inventory through their retail operations.”

“The emergence of different video connectivity standards for mobile devices strengthens consumer demand for multi-standard video accessories to provide a critical link between mobile devices and displays,” said Tim Blanke, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at TranSwitch. “We are actively promoting our latest HDplay products for this large and growing accessory market. Discussions with OEMs as well as directly with wireless carriers, validate the key advantages of our HDplay solutions for small multi-standard video accessories. We are very excited about teaming up with SURE-FIRE in the development of mobile video accessories as they are an established and proven leader with experience selling into the retail dongle market.”

HDplay leverages TranSwitch’s unique MHDP™ technology to combine HDMI, DisplayPort, MyDP and MHL functionality in a single IC to help manufacturers reduce design complexity, cost, space requirements and time-to-market.
