The company's donation will help the Red Cross with flood relief efforts
TORONTO, June 24, 2013 /CNW/ - Sun Life Financial is making a donation
of $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help people in southern
Alberta, where tens of thousands were evacuated during the worst
flooding to hit the region in decades.
Sun Life Financial has many clients, employees and advisors living in
the areas impacted by the floods. "We want to express our sympathy and
support for residents whose lives have been severely affected by these
devastating floods," said Kevin Dougherty, President, Sun Life
Financial Canada. "We are donating $100,000 to the Red Cross to help
assist with much needed disaster recovery efforts."
Sun Life Financial's donation will be used to meet the critical needs of
affected residents who have been hard hit by evacuations, power outages
and water shortages. It will help support the Red Cross in their
efforts to meet basic needs by providing food, clothing, cots,
blankets, hygiene kits and emergency shelters.
Sun Life Financial offices in the impacted areas will remain closed
today. The City of Calgary has announced that the downtown will remain
shut down until at least the middle of the week while disaster recovery
efforts continue.
