MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) announced today that Jason Cole has joined the
company as vice president of federal government relations in Washington,
D.C., effective August 22, 2013. Cole will report to Heather Wingate,
head of federal and state lobbying for MetLife.
“I am very pleased that Jason is joining the MetLife team in
Washington,” said Wingate. “His broad public and private sector
experience, coupled with his knowledge of the legislative process and
financial issues, will help MetLife to continue to influence public
policy and advocate for responsible financial regulation.”
Cole joins MetLife from the office of Congressman Jim Himes, Democrat
from the 4th district in Connecticut, where he supervises a
staff of 17 in three offices, manages the office’s budget and serves as
chief policy advisor for the member. In this role, Cole has advised the
congressman on key fiscal and tax reform issues, including developing
legislative strategies on major components of the Dodd-Frank financial
regulatory reform bill.
Between 2003 and 2009, Cole was executive director of the U.S. office of
public policy for UBS Americas, the U.S. arm of the Swiss-based global
financial services company. Here he developed and promoted UBS’s policy
agenda at the federal level among key stakeholders, including Congress,
the Executive Branch, trade associations, think tanks and the media.
Prior to joining the private sector, Cole was legislative director for
Congressman Dennis Moore (D-KS) from 1999 to 2003. In that role, he
formulated and implemented legislative strategy and counseled the member
on tax, energy, trade and telecommunications policy. Before that, Cole
worked as a financial analyst with the U.S. Small Business
Administration and in political campaign management.
