WASHINGTON, Aug. 6, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) has elected Raymond V. Gilmartin, former chairman, president, and CEO of Merck & Co., to serve on the board. He brings a wealth of directorship experience on public and nonprofit boards, as well as a background in the health industry.
Gilmartin currently serves as lead director on the board of General Mills (NYSE:GIS), and he was previously a director of Public Service Enterprise Group and Microsoft, and past chairman of the United Negro College Fund. Additionally, Gilmartin served on the board of dean's advisors for the Harvard Business School.
He has been active in the healthcare industry, co-chairing the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and also acting as the past chair of the Healthcare Leadership Council and a board member of the Alliance for Healthcare Reform. He is the past chair of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and past president of the International Federation of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations.
In addition, Gilmartin was a member of the President's Export Council and past chair of the Council on Competitiveness.
