VMware Cloud Management Helps Drive Adoption of Software-Defined Data Center Architecture

Growing Numbers of VMware Customers Implement Operations Management and Automation Solutions to Achieve Increased Levels of Efficiency, Agility and Control in Cloud Environments; VMware Management Solutions Demonstrated on Stage at VMworld(R)

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 27, 2013) - VMware Cloud Management solutions are helping customers achieve the promise of the software-defined data center architecture, VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, announced today at VMworld® 2013. With best-in-class cloud automation, cloud operations, and cloud business management solutions, VMware delivers a comprehensive product portfolio to help simplify and automate management in the mobile-cloud era.

VMware Cloud Management Achieves Rapid Customer Adoption, Market Leadership
VMware Cloud Management solutions are resonating with customers leading to accelerating sales of the VMware vCloud® Suite. VMware Cloud Management license bookings were VMware's strongest growing product area in Q2 2013. Since the beginning of 2012, the customer installed base has tripled.

"Our goal is to deliver cloud management software that enables automated, programmable infrastructure for the software-defined data center and enable IT as a broker of services that businesses need to meet internal and external demands," said Ramin Sayar, senior vice president and general manager, Cloud Management, VMware. "Our momentum in the cloud management market is fueled by continuing increases in customer adoption, partner ecosystem support and bookings growth."

According to market research firm IDC, VMware was named the leading cloud systems management software vendor based on 2012 software revenues1. In the report, "Worldwide Cloud Systems Management Software 2012 Vendor Shares," IDC determined that VMware was the cloud systems management leader with 20.5 percent market share. Driving market growth in 2012 was enterprise and service provider customers' expanded use of cloud automation, monitoring, and analytics across their virtualized datacenter environments, according to IDC.

Cloud Management Innovation Delivers on Customers' Virtualization and Cloud Strategies
At the heart of the success of VMware Cloud Management solutions is the focus on helping customers realize their virtualization and cloud agendas through a new approach to management and rapid, sustained product innovation. Purpose-built for the era of cloud computing and the software-defined data center, VMware Cloud Management solutions are recognized for patented analytics and an integrated and innovative approach to policy-based automation, log analytics, IT financial management, and performance, capacity and configuration management. "Traditional solutions are not going to be the foundations upon which the management stacks for virtualized data centers, the software-defined data center, and hybrid clouds will be built," said Bernd Harzog, analyst, The Virtualization Practice. "Rather, a new ecosystem of management vendors is going to emerge with VMware currently best positioned to lead."

VMware is making its industry leading cloud management solutions more accessible to customers. VMware vCloud® Automation Center™ and VMware vCenter™ Operations Management Suite™ capabilities are now featured in all editions of the newly announced VMware vCloud Suite 5.5. Additionally, the just announced VMware vSphere® with Operations Management™ 5.5 integrates capacity planning, performance and health monitoring technology with VMware vSphere. Since the beginning of 2013, VMware has delivered 12 new and enhanced category-leading products.

"To best serve the internal business customers, Covance has undertaken an IT transformation program to drive operational efficiencies and arrest IT cost growth," said Michael Lebiedzinski, director of Private Cloud Engineering, Covance. "With the VMware vCloud Suite and its cloud management capabilities as foundational building blocks, Covance is building its private cloud, which has automated the request and fulfillment of virtual machines, resulted in increased customer satisfaction, and laid the foundation for IT as a Service Provider."

Growing Partner Ecosystem Benefits from New Management Opportunities
Accelerating customer adoption of VMware Cloud Management solutions has drawn an ever-growing number of partners into the VMware ecosystem. These partners are benefiting from the increased manageability of the VMware vSphere platform enabled by these solutions, as well as their heterogeneous capabilities and their extensibility to additional technology domains. In addition to providing new solutions and technologies, VMware is working with these partners to help transform their businesses to better serve their customers as they progress on their journey to the software-defined data center and the cloud.

After growing its cloud management partner ecosystem by 50 percent in 2012, VMware is on pace to double its network of management partners in 2013. VMware is also working closely with strategic partners to embed VMware Cloud Management solutions into existing practices or build new practices based on these solutions.

VMware Previews New Cloud Management Solutions at VMworld
Today's VMworld® VMware keynote will preview the next-generation of VMware Cloud Management solutions including VMware vCloud Automation Center, VMware vCenter™ Log Insight™, VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite™ and VMware IT Business Management™.
