Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) today announced that the Washington
State Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) has selected Tyler’s Odyssey®
court management system for statewide implementation supporting the
state’s Superior Courts. Odyssey will help the AOC meet its key goals of
automating and supporting the daily operations of the majority of
Washington State Superior Courts by maintaining a statewide network
connecting the courts and its partner criminal justice agencies.
Odyssey replaces the AOC’s current decades-old legacy applications known
as the Superior Court Management Information System (SCOMIS). AOC and
the Superior Courts will rely on Odyssey’s many functions, including
case management, document management and financial management.
The AOC expects Odyssey’s automation to eliminate many manual tasks and
help streamline workloads. Odyssey will also increase access to
accurate, statewide data for all constituents, including prosecutors,
public defenders, the news media, law firms and the public.
The contract between Tyler and the Washington State AOC is valued at
approximately $20 million, which includes software licensing fees and
professional services. Implementation is expected to begin in September
2013.
The search for an integrated court management system involved input and
guidance from AOC, the Superior Courts and the County Clerks. After a
competitive solicitation and review of submitted proposals, Tyler’s
Odyssey solution was selected as the case management system that would
best meet the needs of Washington State’s Superior Courts and it was
recommended that the AOC enter contract negotiations with Tyler. The
Washington Courts’ Judicial Information System Committee (JISC), chaired
by Washington Supreme Court Justice Mary Fairhurst and composed of 16
other members of the judicial and law enforcement communities, accepted
that recommendation, and contract negotiations were successfully
completed in July.
“Tyler is pleased that the Washington State Judiciary chose Odyssey to
modernize its Superior Courts statewide, both in terms of operating
efficiency, and in providing its residents and judicial community
broader and easier access to information,” said John S. Marr Jr.,
Tyler’s president and chief executive officer. “Odyssey is a proven and
mature system that Tyler delivers with a methodology that has succeeded
in each of our previous nine statewide implementations. That deep
experience and track record of success is a significant value and
comfort to court systems of all sizes.”
Washington will be the 10th statewide implementation of Tyler’s Odyssey
solution, which has been successfully deployed in Indiana, Minnesota,
New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota; statewide
implementations in Maryland, Rhode Island and Oregon are currently under
way. In total, Odyssey is used by more than 500 counties in 19 states,
serving more than 75 million residents.
