Cash Store Financial Freedom Run to Take Place in Whitby

WHITBY, ON, Sept. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - This Sunday hundreds of runners (and walkers) will participate in the Cash Store Financial Freedom Run for Diabetes Research in Whitby. The race is one of 27 community runs across the country in support of the Canadian Diabetes Association and will help raise funds and awareness for diabetes.

• 1,386,000 Ontarians are living with diabetes - a number that is on the rise
• The estimated cost of diabetes in Ontario  in 2013 is $5.6 billion
• One in four Canadians has diabetes or pre-diabetes. If trends continue, this will rise to one in three by 2020
• If left untreated or not properly managed, diabetes can lead to painful and sometimes life-threatening complications such as heart-attack, stroke, kidney failure, limb-amputation and blindness
