Text Kills Outreach Supports National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW) with a Full Week Schedule to Spread Awareness

Text Kills to visit Schools in San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Los Alamitos and Others during its 7th Year.

San Clemente, Calif. October 21, 2013 - Today, Text Kills, a division of Iconosys, Inc announces its schedule for the week in support of National Teen Driver Safety Week. Text Kills waits and plans for this week all year with planned upgrades to its presentations, its demonstrations, and its simulators and testing environments. National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW) takes place on October 20-26th, 2013, and local organization Text Kills does its part to support this week of outreach with a Southern California High School Tour.

With motor vehicle crashes remaining the primary cause of death for adolescents, with teen drivers (ages 16 to 19) four times more likely to be involved in fatal crashes than that of adult drivers (ages 25 to 69). http://www.teendriversource.org/ reports that each year, more than 5,000 teens are killed in motor vehicle crashes.

In its effort to honor and support NTDSW, which this year’s theme is "It Takes Two: Shared Expectations for Teens and Parents for Driving," Text Kills will visit high schools, where they will work with students are taking up a challenge to stay safe on the road.

Text Kills main focus during NTDSW will be on is distracted driving, specifically Texting while Driving or TWD.

High School students will be encouraged to take the pledge that more than 100,000 others have taken since its founding, to not to engage in texting while driving (TWD) by signing the Text Kills Bus. Text Kills® will be showcasing their interactive and fun distracted driving simulators, remote control obstacle courses, texting and walking exercises, drunk driving simulators, and more.

Text Kills® will also be filming footage for their documentary "Cell Phones of Mass Destruction" which has been funded by a recent crowdfunding project through Indiegogo.com.

Text Kills® has gained widespread recognition for its unique brand of education and entertainment regarding public safety issues, and has received media attention nationwide. The organization has partnered with law enforcement, fire/safety authorities, schools, other non-profits, community outreach programs, and corporation safety officers to help spread awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and text-bullying. Celebrities, athletes, and politicians have also rallied behind their cause, with big names like Def Leppard Drummer Rick Allen and UFC Fighter/ Actor Randy Couture having signed the bus. Text Kills® also participated in the 2010 national Distracted Driving Summit in Washington, D.C. at the invitation of former US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, as well as in the Federal Communication Commission's 2013 Distracted Driving Technology Showcase.

In addition to educational institutions, Text Kills® has recently partnered with a number of corporations wishing to encourage their employees to think hard about the dangers of TWD including; Sempra Energy (SRE), Capistrano Volkswagen, Coca-Cola Bottling, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) to bring its outreach and educational information to Southern California.

After a series of tragic crashes involving Pennsylvania high school students, Representatives Charlie Dent (R- PA) and Senator Bob Casey (D- PA) and over 50 co-sponsors introduced the resolution creating National Teen Driver Safety Week in October 2007. Support for National Teen Driver Safety Week since has grown nationwide, and media coverage has been growing virally. Celebrities, including Jesse McCartney and Oprah Winfrey, have formally endorsed the week, and Kelly Clarkson has taken on the cause for this year's NTDSW. Former U.S. Transportation Secretary LaHood acknowledged distracted driving as an epidemic, calling for Americans to turn off their phones while driving, prior to the week's kickoff in 2010.
