Cintas Shares Five "Fun Facts" about the Best Seat in the House for World Toilet Day

CTAS

In recognition of World Toilet Day on Nov. 19, Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS) shares five interesting facts about one of the most popular seats in the house – the toilet. World Toilet Day was started in 2001 by the World Toilet Organization (WTO) to bring awareness to the struggle of the 2.6 billion people who do not have access to clean sanitation. To support the WTO’s outreach efforts, Cintas will make a $1 donation for every download of its mobile clean restroom finder, Where to Wee (W2W), between now and the end of the year.

“Thanks to organizations like Cintas, the WTO can extend our reach and bring health, dignity and well-being to everyone, everywhere through clean and safe sanitation,” said Jack Sim, Founder of the WTO.

Cintas’ five “fun facts” about toilets include:

  • The average person spends three years of his or her life sitting on the toilet
  • Studies show that the first toilet in a public restroom is generally the cleanest
  • The average American uses 57 sheets of toilet paper a day, which adds up to 36.5 billion rolls of toilet paper per year
  • There are more toilets flushed in the U.S. during the Super Bowl halftime show than any other half hour of the year
  • Pomegranates studded with cloves were used as the first toilet air-fresheners

“No one pays much attention to the toilet until there is something wrong with it,” said David Collette, Director of Foodservice, Cintas. “Yet the issue of inadequate access to sanitation is a very real problem. By downloading our app, users can not only ensure they have access to clean restrooms, but also help improve the restroom conditions for billions of other people in the world.”

Recognizing the importance of a clean restroom, Cintas developed W2W, a mobile application that enables users to find a clean restroom anywhere they travel. With the app, users can identify clean restrooms with a colored “commodicon.” Green commodicons indicate a top-rated restroom, yellow indicates an average-ranked restroom and unrated restrooms are displayed with a grey icon. W2W has the largest database of restroom locations compared to restroom finder apps, so users always benefit from a comprehensive list of nearby facilities.

In addition to finding a clean restroom, W2W also allows users to rate restrooms on a five-point system. Users can rate its overall cleanliness, including the appearance of sink and toilet areas, availability of soap and toilet paper, and odor levels.

W2W is available for complimentary download in the iPhone App store or the Android Marketplace. For every W2W download between now and Dec. 31, Cintas will make a $1 donation to the WTO, up to $5,000.
