IceWEB Welcomes Akamai Technologies, Inc. As Its Latest Data Center Customer

IceWEB, Inc. (OTCBB:IWEB) announced today that its Kansas City subsidiary, Computers and Tele-Comm, Inc. (“CTC”) has added Akamai Technologies, Inc. as its newest co-location client at its Data Center. According to Graeme Gibson, CTC Chief Technologist, “The Akamai array was installed and accepted by Akamai on December 4th, 2013. Having Akamai in Kansas City and directly connected to the KC NAP peering fabric will substantially increase web surfing speed for those clients connected to our regional network. Akamai chose CTC because we are one of the highest concentrations of fiber networks in the 5 state region, enabling web surfers to avoid the normal congestion commonly associated with Cloud Computing.”

“Every IT manager knows that patching servers is a major consumer of bandwidth. With a local Akamai server array, one copy of any given patch update is automatically downloaded to the array and then distributed thousands of times as business and data center customers need the update. Since as much as 15% or more of the local web traffic is stored right in our data center and on our 10 Gb network, the congestion and cost of moving data across the country is greatly reduced,” said Rob Howe CEO of IceWEB. “As IceWEB transitions to a Cloud Services company, rich content delivery networks are vital to our long term vision. Akamai’s technology will help us to achieve those goals.”

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is an Internet content delivery network headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Akamai's network is one of the world's largest distributed-computing platforms, responsible for serving between 15 and 20 percent of all web traffic. The company operates a network of servers around the world and rents space on these servers to its customers, which over the years have included Facebook, Bing, Twitter and healthcare.gov, who want their websites to work faster by distributing content from locations close to the user.
