The Museum of Science Fiction, the world’s first comprehensive science
fiction museum, is hosting a special awards ceremony to reveal and honor
the best designs of its international architectural design competition.
This global competition has received 463 registrations from 46 different
countries to compete for the best design for the Museum of Science
Fiction’s planned 2015 preview museum to be built in the metropolitan
Washington, DC area.
The Preview Museum is designed to be a modular, re-deployable 4,000
square-foot facility that can be moved to another city after the
full-size museum is completed.
The September 25 event will be presented at the SmithGroup Offices in
partnership with eBay, Google, DreamHost, Science Channel, Grunley
Construction, and Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.
“We are simply amazed by the level of global participation from
architects and designers around the world,” said Greg Viggiano,
Executive Director of the Museum. “The science fiction community is
truly global and we intend to highlight this aspect in every part of our
planning and implementation.”
The awards ceremony will feature the overall winner, chosen by a
distinguished jury, as well as recognition of a People’s Choice Award.
To participate in selecting the People’s Choice design, visit www.facebook.com/museumofsciencefiction
on September 15 for voting and official rules. The top designs will
receive special recognition at the awards ceremony and be included in a
special exhibition hosted by the DC Public Library.
Within the next few months, the Museum of Science Fiction is planning
for the exhibit to tour New York, Los Angeles, Milan, Mexico City, Hong
Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, Mumbai, Berlin, Moscow, and London.
